A "Plan B" for hedgehogs, wild bees & Co.
Today we present three projects that show how you can promote biodiversity in the garden, on the balcony and in your city or community with a minimum of effort.
"Mission B" wants to create one million m2 of near-natural areas ... | ... in schools, along roads, in gardens of all kinds. Mission B" is the response to the steady decline in biodiversity. The "Plan B" for nature. Every second, Switzerland loses almost 0.7 square metres of green space. Insects are dying, birds are dwindling, and many plant and animal species are threatened. Because we humans need more and more space, whether for living and settlement areas or for intensive agriculture.
For the project, the public radio and television stations of all four language regions work together. The aim of "Mission B" is to sustainably promote biodiversity in Switzerland.
Help us to reach the 1 000 000 m2 mark.
By the way, Swiss Birdlife offers a Mission B competition every month
How can I promote winter shelter in my community? |
We need native animals. These creatures pollinate our fruit and vegetables or keep pests away. If you can win a hedgehog as a garden inhabitant, you will be lucky, because the snail is on the menu of these mammals. From the beginning of November hedgehogs will be looking for wintering quarters. Garden birds are an enrichment with their colourfulness and variety of song. In the cold winter they are happy about feeding silos and birdhouses. We are happy about the colour blot in the dreary winter!
Here you will find several ideas that have been implemented in the community of Siglistorf.
What plants attract wild bees to your balcony? When the animals wake up they are hungry! Wild bees are particularly worth protecting for pollinating field plants and fruit trees. When they check out of your hotel room, they are looking for suitable food. They depend on early bloomers, but it is also important to offer the right flowers throughout the year. On Future Planter you can see which plants are possible that fit your environment. You will be asked about the type of planting area, location and solar radiation. Enter your data and get your personal plant list delivered directly to the inbox. Many perennials can still be planted now (on frost-free days). Talk to an expert gardener. And off you go in spring!
