Upcycling - Valuables from unknown treasures!

Today, we present two very different suppliers who create new and valuable products from seemingly worthless resources.

The People's Factory in Lucerne completely reinvents production - as a possible solution for a sustainable lifestyle - and will in future focus on a modern form of in-house production in the neighbourhood: local, shared, independent, high-quality, harmless, enjoyable and simple. Thus, it enables visitors to produce utensils and gifts by themselves from natural materials, material scraps and fabrics from urban mining, such as personalised key rings made of drift wood, bags made of T-shirt yarn from old T-shirts or pieces of jewellery made of horn from scraps from the manufacture of glasses. Working together in workshops will give everyone a positive experience and renewed confidence in their own ability to produce beautiful things by themselves. The participants learn in a relaxed way that acquiring products is possible without wasting valuable resources that are harmful to the environment and health, without unfair mass production and thoughtless consumption.

Your good intention: Make your own Christmas presents!

People's Factory is looking for materials such as used jeans and beautiful old wood. Also material remnants from productions are of interest, such as glass, leather, horn, wood, cork and many more.

Ananda The 2 founders of the new hand bag label Ananda from Zurich pursue a completely different approach. The start-up offers bags made from Piñatex, a vegan leather made from the fibres of the pineapple leaves that remain after harvesting. During the manufacturing process, the pineapple fibres are converted into a leather-like material. All that remains at the end is biomass, which is used as a natural fertilizer. By reusing the leaves, the farmers generate additional income outside the pineapple harvest season. The bags themselves are sewn in a small factory in Florence. The individual parts of the bags can also be separated using a zipper and replaced with a new part in a different colour. This way the bag can be combined in countless ways and remains a faithful companion for years to come. The Piñatex bags from Ananda are therefore not only a good example of upcycling, but also an environmentally friendly, vegan, social and fair alternative to products made of animal leather or artificial leather (PVC).
