How will we eat in the future?

Today we highlight some projects that were initiated in 2016 and show new approaches on sustainable food systems.

The Ring Garden is winner of a land art competition in California and is capable of churning out 60 million liters of clean water, 80,000 tons of aeroponic crops, and 20,000 tons of spirulina biomass for livestock. With roughly 80 percent of California’s already-scarce water supply going to agriculture, it’s crucial for the state to embrace new technologies that shrink the amount of water required to grow food. Alexandru Predonu has designed an elegant solution that uses solar energy to power a rotating desalination plant and farm that not only produces clean drinking water, but also serves for food crops – including algae.
