The first Cradle to Cradle book
Circular economy is one of the threads running through this Advent calendar. Today we present the first book, which was developed according to the the principles of Cradle to Cradle™. In cooperation with Epea Switzerland, the Vögeli printing company has improved its processes so that all materials such as printing ink, paper, coatings and glues used in print products are optimized for the natural cycle. This means that these products do not contain any toxic printing waste.
«Less bad» isn't good enough | Products do not become usefull and sustainable simply by reducing harmful substances. Eco-effectiveness is about doing the right thing: Harmful substances are not used in the first place. For a printing company, this means that alternatives are studied intensively for substances that are harmful to the environment and health, such as inks and adhesives.
Waste = food | With the Cradle to Cradle® concept, there is no waste. As in nature, all substances remain in cycles. With conventional printing processes, around 30% of the materials cannot be recycled and end up in a landfill. Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Printing products from Vögeli AG have been optimized for the recycling process. Even the remaining sludge of burned paper can flow back into the biological cycle.
Healthy by design. Printing as nature would do it | The ingredients of the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ print products were analyzed in collaboration with the environmental research institute EPEA. In terms of health compatibility such as allergy risks, etc., the highest requirements are met. Even the ashes from burnt print products can be safely scattered in the vegetable garden.
