Car repairs : the smart alternatives
AXA wishes to pave the way for environmentally friendly and cost-saving car repairs. A pilot test with 14 partners showed that it is frequently worthwhile to repair minor damages, instead of renewing large areas. This pioneering trial reveals great potential for the entire auto industry.
Seek advice before hurrying to the car mechanic | After an accident, car owners often act hastily in order to restore their vehicles as quickly as possible. However, going to a car repair workshop first, may save both resources and money. Major repairs including replacing large areas, aren’t always necessary. In many cases, whether damage was done to the paintwork, the body or the windshield, the car can be repaired in a much cheaper and more ecological way.
Repairing is eco-friendly | AXA selected 14 companies amongst its partners, which were trained over a twelve month period in environmentally friendly techniques, such as "repairing instead of replacing" and "micro repairing". The focus of the training was on sustainability and saving resources. So far, results are impressive. For example, repairing a bumper instead of replacing it saves over 35 kg of CO2. Moreover, on average repairs are 411 francs cheaper than replacing parts or large areas of the vehicle.
Enzo Santarsiero, CEO of André Koch AG, made an enthusiastic statement: "It is a central concern of ours that our partner companies work in a resource-saving manner. I am convinced that environmentally friendly repair methods will become more and more important and mainstream in the coming years."".
Repair to reduce CO2 emissions| In 2020 the concept will be presented in German-speaking Switzerland. Five regional kick-offs are planned, the first is to be expected mid-January 2020 in Winterthur.

The gift of time | Today's gift comes from the online shop «Schenkzeit», a project which is supported by AXA's Generation Dialogue Foundation. Schenkzeit offers two categories of gifts: shared experiences and donations. The idea is to use the donation mechanism to stimulate intergenerational dialogue and promote the health of the beneficiaries.
